Izaak Morris
"I really enjoy helping my colleagues learn and develop new skills."
I started as a Line Operative in Prepared back in 2011. I really enjoyed the role and the cameraderie of the factory, and I was pleased to be earning a good wage at such a young age.
After a while I was promoted to Key Operative, which I did for three years. This role gave me extra responsibility, more freedom to manage my own time and I felt like I contributed more to the daily running of the factory.
Next, I was a Machine Technician for three years: learning new skills and new ways of working. This role also gave me more exposure to other parts of the business and enabled me to contribute to bigger projects.
I got pretty good at understanding how to keep the machinery running smoothly and how to fix things, which is what led me to being an Apprentice Engineer for three years. As part of this I enrolled at college. This enhanced and reinforced the work I was doing on site and helped develop my problem-solving skills.
I’ve learnt a lot over the years, and I am currently a Trainer. It’s been a change of course for my career but the knowledge I've gained from previous roles helps me to pass on key skills to my colleagues in the factory. I really enjoy seeing others develop and getting the training and coaching they need to do their jobs better.
When the new Mash factory is ready, I’ll be taking on the role of Section Manager, which will be another great opportunity to learn new skills.
