Our route to Net-Zero
In November 2024 we reached a significant milestone in our route to Net-Zero with the approval of our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
This endorsement encompasses Branston’s Near-Term, Net-Zero, and FLAG targets, confirming our alignment with SBTi's rigorous Net-Zero Standard Criteria and Near-Term Target Criteria and Recommendations.
This external recognition of Branston’s targets underlines our commitment to mitigating the impacts of climate change and we join a growing movement of companies working towards the same goal.
Progress towards Net-Zero includes enhanced energy efficiency and greater use of renewable energy. We have nine PV systems across our three sites, which generate around 1.3 GWh annually as well as an anaerobic digestion plant which supplies 20% of the Lincoln site’s energy from waste potatoes.
We have electric car chargers at all sites for staff and are trialling an electric truck based at the Scotland site while we continue to research alternative fuels for the HGV fleet. We’ve also been working with growers, the agri-tech community and universities to take carbon out of potato production. This includes low carbon fertilisers, reduced cultivations, alternative farm fuels and novel cold store design.
